COMPRESSION SPRING

• A compression spring is an open-coil helical spring that offers resistance to a compressive force applied axially.
  
• Compression Springs are the most common metal spring configuration and are in fact one of the most efficient energy storage devices available
  
• Other than the common cylindrical shape, many shapes are utilized, including conical, barrel and hourglass.

• Generally, these coil springs are either placed over a rod or fitted inside a hole. When you put a load on a compression coil spring, making it shorter, it pushes back against the load and tries to get back to its original length.
  

Compression springs are found in a wide variety of applications ranging from automotive engines and large stamping presses to major appliances and lawn mowers to medical devices, cell phones, electronics and sensitive instrumentation devices.

EXTENSION SPRING

• Helical extension springs are similar to helical compression springs, but are loaded in tension.
  
• Hook or loops are provided to allow a pull force to be applied.
  
• Usually, extension springs are attached at both ends to other components. When these components move apart, the spring tries to bring them together again
  
• Extension springs absorb and store energy as well as create a resistance to a pulling force.
  
• It is initial tension that determines how tightly together an extension spring is coiled. This initial tension can be manipulated to achieve the load  requirements of a particular application.
  
• Extension Springs are wound to oppose extension. They are often tightly wound in the no-load position and have hooks, eyes, or other interface geometry at the ends to attach to the components they connect.
  
• They are frequently used to provide return force to components that extend in the actuated position
  

1)Applications for extension springs include automotive interiors and exteriors, garage door assemblies, vise-grip pliers, carburetors, trampolines, washing devices, farm machinery, toys as well as thousands of other uses.

TORSION SPRING

• Helical springs used to apply a torque or store rotational energy are commonly referred to as torsion springs.
  
• The ends of torsion springs are attached to other components, and when those components rotate around the center of the spring, the spring tries to push them back to their original position. Although the name implies otherwise, torsion springs are subjected to bending stress rather than torsional stress.
  
• Torsion spring can store and release angular energy or statically hold a mechanism in place by deflecting the legs about the body centerline axis
  
• This type of spring is normally close wound but can have pitch to reduce friction between the coils. They offer resistance to twist or rotationally applied force.
  
• It is initial tension that determines how tightly together an extension spring is coiled. This initial tension can be manipulated to achieve the load  requirements of a particular application.
  
• Depending on the application, torsion springs can be designed to work in a clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation, thus determining the direction of the wind.
  

1)Common torsion springs are used in clothes pins, clipboards, swing-down tailgates, garage doors, window shades, counterbalance mechanisms, ratchets and various types of machine components.

2)Torsion springs are used for hinges, counterbalances and lever return applications. They are also used as couplings between concentric shafts, such as in a motor and pump assembly.

3)Torsion springs are generally mounted around a shaft or arbor, and must be supported at three or more points

CONICAL SPRING

• Conical Compression springs are often specified where the large end is meant to work in a bore and the small end is meant to work over a rod. They offer the advantage of a reduced solid height compared to straight compression springs, especially when capable of "telescoping."
  
• Conical Springs are Cone shaped compression springs designed to provide a near constant spring rate and a solid height lower than a normal spring
  
• Each spring features a variable pitch to achieve the constant spring rate and coils which nest during deflection to provide a solid height approximately equal to two wire diameters.
  

SPIRAL SPRING

• Spiral torsion springs are produced from flat steel and are characterized by the requirement that their coils typically do not touch during operation.
  
• A spiral torsion spring will exert a rotational torque, usually through 360° rotation or less. The torque curve of a spiral torsion spring is linear to the degree of rotation
  
• The inner end of the spring is typically bent to attach to an arbor or hub. The outer end is then attached to the object that is rotating or utilizing the torque of the spring

ZIGZAG SPRING

• Made from two-dimensional S-shaped heavy-duty wire, zigzag springs are known in the upholstery industry as "No-Sag" springs
  
• Modern manufacturers have turned to using zigzag springs in upholstered furniture because they are inexpensive and easy to install
  
• zigzag springs can used in ottomans, sofas and chairs. But they work best in furniture pieces with shallow frames. Deep-framed antique upholstered furniture pieces are usually designed to use coil springs and webbing

GARTER SPRING

• Garter Springs are helical extension or compression springs whose ends are connected so that each spring becomes a circle and exerts radial forces.  Their primary application is in oil seals.  Other uses include small motor belts, electrical connectors and piston-ring expanders.
  
• Design methods for garter springs are continuations of methods developed for helical compression and extension springs.  Generally, garter springs are designed with as low a rate as possible to provide a nearly constant force on a seal as it wears.
  
• The garter is essentially a helical extension spring formed into a circular ring with the ends connected on the inside diameter. Thus a garter spring is an endless spring, ignoring that its ends are joined which does not affect the results. A garter spring is easily identified in that it looks like a circle made up of a spring.

• Our wire forming machines are capable of forming round wire from 0.5 mm diameter up to 5.00 mm diameter wire, with a maximum length of material up to 30".
  
• This precision equipment can also form flat wire up to 2 1/2" in width and 1/4" in thickness, with a maximum feed length of 15".
